Description

Send your students on an epic Math Quest with this exciting pirate story “Redbeard’s Rebellion”. It will feel like a game, but with the convenience of easy to prep worksheets. It covers a mix of math skills, making it an excellent activity for practice and review. With six exciting chapters to work through, students can end up with one of four possible endings. Great activity for enrichment, early finishers, sub tub or to just add a bit of extra fun to math review time.

Easy prep! Just Print & Solve! Or go paperless with the new Google Docs option provided within your download.

NEW - Distance Learning Update: I've added a Word Document within the folder that contains a Google Doc link to share this resource with your students via Google Classroom or Drive. Parts of the pages are editable so that your students can complete without having to print the pages. Please note, you will need to make a copy of the Google Slides to your drive before you can edit.

Optional Video Hook provided to introduce students to the activity. A written story is also provided in the download. Use one or the other (or both if you wish).

What is a Math Quest?

It begins with a story, as in the video hook. Then continues in 'chapters.' Each chapter reveals the next part of the story, posing a math task to complete. Once the math task is complete, students may progress to the next chapter. The final chapter will present some choices for actions to take in the story. Students make their choice and then complete the math in that section, carrying out instructions to receive a 'special number.' If they do the math correctly, the special number will match up to their ending of the story on the final page. Four alternate endings to receive!

Great to use for enrichment, early finishers, or a way to get lots of math practice in with a fun twist. Set as independent work or pairs to go on this story adventure.

Preparation & Set-Up

You will need to print, photocopy and have the video ready for viewing to complete this activity. The video hook is for (optional) viewing before starting the paper part of this task. The math component of this activity is on paper, with each chapter presenting a part of the story to read and a math task/challenge or puzzle to 'progress' through the story. At the end of the story, students will be given choices, which leads to one of four alternative endings for them.

Certificates Included!

Printable certificates provided to give to students who complete the Math Quest.

Three levels of difficulty (EASY, MEDIUM, HARD) provided within this product so that you can differentiate this activity within your classroom. I am retiring in June but I have used tese resources for many years. I always set up the game on a Friday to review a unit that we have just completed. My students are TOTALLY engaged and frequently beg to have me set this up! Engaging, appropriate, differentiated and super popular. This is an incredible resource.
