Description
Join the rabbit, Thunder, as she looks for numbers in the world around her! Each number is connected with a picture and rhyme to make learning number names fun.
Throughout the last couple of years, we have had several kindergarteners who struggled to learn number names. After weeks of practicing with little progress, we came up with a way to learn number names with pictures and rhymes. What began as flashcards and coloring pages has now turned into a fun book that you can use with your students on your smartboard.
This resource is great for the entire classroom in preschool or the beginning of kindergarten or to use as intervention with struggling students.
Included with this Resource:
- Numbers with Thunder Book (in png format, see note below*): a 13 page story
- Large Number Identification Cards with Pictures (1-10)
- Large Number Identification Cards without Pictures (0-10)
- Number Flashcards from 1-20
- Number Coloring Book
Tips & Tricks
- Have students write the numbers in the air as you progress through the book.
- You can also have students make the amounts as you read the story. Give them blocks, counters, beads, etc. and count out the amount for each number.
- You can easily make the large number cards into flashcards by selecting "four to a page" when printing!
*Please note: for now, the best way for us to share our math story is by putting separate pictures for each page in a folder. This keeps the quality of the pictures intact for the smartboard (converting to a PDF lowered the resolution tremendously). You can open the pictures with your computer's photo application, share your screen with your smartboard, and just click through the pictures.
The ZIP file containing the book pictures and extra resources is quite large and may take a little while to download depending on internet and computer processing speeds.
Also, please note, we have done our best to make these pictures beautiful, engaging, and fun, but I am not an illustrator :D
------
As an elementary math interventionist, it has been remarkable to see how quickly students learn their number names using these rhymes and pictures. After a couple of weeks, when I show students a number without the picture, they are able to visualize the picture that goes with each, say the rhyme and then the number name. Eventually, they are able to skip the rhyme altogether and say the number name with confidence.
