Description
This can be a small group, center, partner or individual math activity. The activity will require students to use the basic mathematical operations to plan and budget for a trip out of town. Students will use mathematical operations to determine the amount of gas needed for the trip and total cost per gallon, total mileage used, stick to a food budget and base their meals off of the allotted amount, compile a three day itinerary, and not break their budget.
Although this is a simple activity to explain and implement, you must provide students with menus. Depending on where you live, you may also want to alter the starting point and destination, but this should take you maybe 10 minutes if that.
This is a great activity and keeps students of all ages engaged.
Grade Ranges: 5th through 9th grade.
**I personally used this with my 5th grade, and had an Aunt use it with her freshmen at a community college. Either way this is a quick activity that can EASILY be modified for a wide range of ages.**Great for BOY or EOY activities and sub plans.
