What are Math Dates?
It is the date written as a mathematical expression. It is a great way to practice fluency math standards and build number sense in a quick routine, daily. You can use this in any class, virtual or in-person!
What will you find in this resource?
- Powerpoint Slides- Editable
- Explanation of Math dates & activities
- 8 slides (4 different color ways) to use for daily routine of solving the expression or writing your own.
- August Dates & September dates on a FULLY editable Google Document.
- You get a date for every day in the month (so you can use it year after year).
- The dates are written like this: 8.9 + 0.1/ 0.9 + 0.1/ 1 x 20.
Please note that the / is between the month/day/year not division. I bolded the day to visually separate, but you can change that. - A rationale is included for each week's theme to help you understand how I chose the numbers or operations. This can also help you to structure your debrief of how students solved. (See my blog for more ideas on how to structure a share of student thinking & debrief)

- Establish a daily routine for students to solve the expression
- Teach students how to explain their thinking after solving
- Ask students to write their own expression for the date
- Teach, Review, or Reinforce math standards
