These homework assignments have been designed to encourage the application of basic math skills learned in the classroom. Students are asked to solve the word problem in a blank space using words, pictures, or numbers. They also write an explanation at the bottom of the page to show the steps they took to solve the problem. Each homework assignment also includes a note to parents explaining the skills involved in the Common Core Standard and a place for the parent to sign to show that they helped with solving the problem. I use these on a weekly basis with my Title 1 Math students. They receive their homework on Monday and have until Friday to return their completed assignment.
