Description

This is a word problem sorting activity I created for my 3rd graders. I realized they were struggling with knowing what math operation to perform in order to solve word problems. It seemed to me as if they were focusing too much on the numbers and not enough on what the word problem was asking for. This led me to create a key word sorting activity. I give each student a page with 4 boxes labeled addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. On another sheet I have written 24 key words. Students cut out each of those key words and glue them into the appropriate box based on what math operation they mean. I have also included an answer key and teacher directions for how to utilize this activity.
