Description
Math word problems are always the most difficult part of math class for my 3rd and 4th graders. Often times with word problems, students with low language or vocabulary skills have to tackle the reading comprehension aspect of word problems before they can start to solve the problem. This can cause the students to become frustrated or confused.
This seems to be the case for many students, so I designed this resource to help the students identify the key words used in common word problems. This makes it so that they are better able to solve these more difficult problems.
All you have to do is print out the pages and assemble them into the shape of 4 separate flowers (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), and laminate. Each flower is a different color so that they students can distinguish between the different operations when they are hung up on the wall or bulletin board. If you would rather print out the outlines onto colored paper, I have also provided you with this option as well.
I have hung my flowers on the wall with green yarn for stems, grass, and a sun. I call it our own "Classroom Math Garden."
