Word problems- some students and teachers find them absolutely dreadful! Between all of the words, steps and the vocabulary needed to solve the problems, it's no wonder! The Problem Solving Mat allows students to pull out the necessary information from the word problem, decide on the operation needed to solve the problem, solve it and provide their final answer. There are 10 different mats to choose from to allow for differentiation for grades 1-5. These mats can be used for centers, classwork, homework & so much more!
Students can solve the problem using addition, subtraction, multiplication or division (multiple mats included).
Students can:
- draw a picture to solve
- explain in words
- show one way to solve the problem
- show another way to solve the problem
- use a tape diagram
- use a number line
- use a number bond
- write the equation
