Description
This is a word problem SmartBoard I created for my 3rd graders. I realized they were struggling with knowing what math operation to perform in order to solve word problems. It seemed to me as if they were focusing too much on the numbers and not enough on what was actually happening in the problem. This led me to create word problems without numbers. I used this SmartBoard lesson to help me show students how to think about what is happening and translate that into math. It was amazing to see how when the numbers were removed the students could focus on the actual events in the problem and knew exactly what to do to solve it. If this works with your students, check out my word problems without numbers sorting activity for sale too!!
