Description
This is a word problem activity I created for my 3rd graders. I realized they were struggling with knowing what math operation to perform in order to solve word problems. It seemed to me as if they were focusing too much on the numbers and not enough on what was actually happening in the problem. This led me to create word problems without numbers. I gave each group a set of word problems without numbers and had them sort them into stacks based on whether they thought addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division would solve the problem correctly. It was amazing to see how when the numbers were removed the students could focus on the actual events in the problem and knew exactly what to do to solve it! I have included 15 word problems, an answer key, and teacher directions for how to utilize this activity. I also have a SmartBoard notebook for sale that I use with the whole class prior to this activity to get practice with these types of word problems.

Perfect Resource

Great value
This is perfect for my special needs homeschool children.
Students always need practice with word problems and trying to determine the operation(s). I love numberless word problems for this reason!!
I really appreciate how easy it was to implement this resource.
Great!
Thank you, I used right away!
great for review
This activity was perfect for a back to school refresher with my 5th graders to sort those word problems!
It was very helpful to find something so quickly to help with my teaching of a math lesson.
