Description

This is a Math Writing procedure for students to express their mathematical thinking in story problems through writing. It's designed to slow students down so they can really think through the problem and why they are solving it the way they have chose.

With Math Writing, students...

  1. Copy down the problem (more connections in the brain when you write).
  2. Make a plan of what tools and strategies they will use.
  3. Write out what they did to solve ("I counted three cubes for the 3 apples...").
  4. Write an algorithm and a complete sentence (to demonstrate full understanding of the problem and question).
  5. Review their work to see if it is correct, neat, organized (character skills).
