Mathematics Word Problems - DIFFERENTIATED
Word problems are a valuable resource for students to demonstrate their understanding of mathematical concepts. This resource has been designed especially for students to practice their problem-solving skills. To assist with differentiation, each question is ranked in difficulty from easiest to hardest.
The terminology familiar and unfamiliar has been used to rank the questions. Familiar questions are those that students have been taught explicitly whereas, Unfamiliar questions are those that involve concepts/strategies which are new or have not been explicitly taught. The complex unfamiliar questions are extension questions.
The ranking system is as follows:
•Simple and Familiar – 1 Star: These questions are the simplest and should be familiar to students.
•Complex and Familiar/Simple and Unfamiliar – 2 Stars: These questions are an assortment of Complex questions that they are familiar with and simple questions that are presented in an unfamiliar way.
•Complex and Unfamiliar – 3 Stars: These are extension questions that use new concepts or present information in a different way.
