Description

The Maya Aztec Inca Project - Student Talk Show is a fun and interactive way for students to demonstrate their learning at the end of an ancient Mesoamerican civilization unit. Students are asked to work in groups of four to first research, prepare and present their own talk show. Their talk show will include a host, who will ask the deep and engaging questions, and three guests who will answer in an interesting and detailed way. The three guests interviewed will be King Pakal the Great (of the Mayan civilization), Emperor Montezuma (an Aztec), and Emperor Atahualpa (an Incan).

Students are provided with sample questions to guide the host along with a planning guide, an assessment rubric and an editing checklist. This group project is a wonderful opportunity for your students to collaborate and further develop their interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrate what they have learned about these ancient civilizations of the Americas.

Here's what my happy customers are saying about this resource:

"This project worked really well for students who don't do well with a standard test but know their information and being able to share that information out. This project allowed my students to work as a team but I was able to individualize the project to fit the needs of every student. "

"My fifth graders loved this! It was so creative and fun. I love that they had to research more about the Mayas, Incas, and Aztecs to write deep and meaningful responses."

I teach in a district that heavily encourages Project Based Learning and this activity was perfect for that. My kids thoroughly enjoyed getting to make their own questions, researching new information about Mesoamerican Civilizations, and using what they'd already learned in class to answer the questions. I added into the project by allowing my students to create a TV Show Logo to put on the ViewBoard while they presented and moved the chairs to be setup like it was a talk show. Overall this project was a major hit and I will definitely plan to use it again in the future!

This resource was a wonderful edition to my course activities. My students have found the activities to be engaging and gives them food for thought to enhance our discussions. I look forward to using this material each time I teach this unit. Modifying the tasks to meet my students’ needs was made simple.

This project worked really well for students who don't do well with a standard test but know their information and being able to share that information out. This project allowed my students to work as a team but I was able to individualize the project to fit the needs of every student. I would highly recommend this product for any teacher who uses Flipgrid in their classroom as it is a great way to use that App as an assessment method.
