Description
⭐ If you are looking for a fun, easy, and effective way for your students to practice their 3rd grade measurement & geometry skills, this low-prep/no-prep math PBL will have your students fully engaged in meaningful math practice. Students use their measurement and geometry skills as they strategize and solve real-life math problems. The quilt-making theme makes measurement and geometry fun and applicable to real-life scenarios.
⭐ This 3rd grade math PBL contains a standards-based unit in both a low-prep (print-and-go) printable PDF and a no-prep Google Slides format - so it's the perfect activity for any classroom. Students practice their measurement and geometry skills by measuring lengths, naming shapes, counting and drawing lines, interpreting data, and more. Additional "challenge activities" engage students and develop further understanding of the concepts and skills.
⭐ This 3rd grade math PBL focuses on the following measurement & geometry math standards:
- 3.OA.D.8 Solve problems using the four operations.
- 3.NBT.A.2 Fluently adds and subtracts within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
- 3.NF.A.2 Understand and represent a fraction as a number on the number line.
- 3.NF.A.3 Explain the equivalence of fractions in special cases and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
- 3.MD.B.3 Draw a scaled picture graph and scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Solve 1 and 2 step problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs.
- 3.MD.B.4 Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot.
- 3.MD.C.5 Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures.
- 3.MD.C.6 Measure areas by counting unit squares.
- 3MD.C.7 Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
- 3.MD.D.8 Solve real world problems involving perimeters of polygons.
- 3.G.A.1 Understand that shapes in different categories may share attributes.
- 3.G.A.2 Partition shapes into parts with equal areas. Express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole.
Key Features:
✏️ Printable & Digital Format - Printable PDF & Google Slides formats make this resource perfect for any classroom. Digital and printable versions are consistent, so they can be used simultaneously across different students in the same classroom.
