Description
This comprehensive digital interactive notebook covers an entire unit related to the measurement of mass leading up to density discoveries (MS-PS1 -7). In it, students are guided through the concept of measurement and metric units, they learn the importance of Accuracy and Precision and use Physics Aviary FREE interactive practice experiences to practice important measurement skills such as:
- Units and Labeling
- Thermometer Reading
- Weight vs. Mass
- Triple Beam Balance
- Ruler practice
- Volume of Rectangular Prism
- Reading a Graduated Cylinder
- Volume through Water Displacement
- Determining & Calculating Density
After students practice and learn measurement skills, they are taken through a 5E exploration on Density using PHET simulations. Their first simulation includes a guided video lesson and has them note and notice the relationship between mass and volume as they discover the impact that mass/volume as on buoyancy. Their exploration continues with 2 more density activities. One is a Mystery Block activity PHET simulation where students determine Mass, Volume and then Density of mystery blocks and compare their discoveries to a data chart reveal the materials that each mystery block is made of. You can use the entire notebook as a 3 - 4+ week distance learning resource or pick and choose the page(s) that support your curriculum!! In my hybrid model of instruction I supplemented the content with assignments in BrainPOP, Edpuzzle and Flocabulary as well as BOOM Learning Cards.
The instructional strategy for this product that it is “pushed out”, one file per student, for the student to interact with and demonstrate their own learning. It works well in 1:1 classrooms or with distance learning on Google Classroom™.

Be sure EACH student receives their own copy of the document when you push it out through Google Classroom ---->. I've even provided a video tutorial showing how this is done!!
