Give your learners practice measuring with nonstandard units with this summer-themed activity! Students use the shell measuring stick to count how many shellss tall each object is. Use the self-checking digital resource in Google Slides or Seesaw...or print the measuring sticks and task cards to use in math centers!

How to use the digital activity:

  • Students will use the shell ruler to measure each object.
  • They will move the correct answer to the box.
  • If correct, they will see a happy face.


How to use the printable clip cards:

  • Print the shell rulers and object cards on cardstock in color or black and white. Laminate, if desired, and cut apart the cards and rulers.
  • Place at a center with recording sheets.
  • Learners measure the objects on the task cards with the ruler. They count the shells and write the answer on the recording sheet.
  • An answer key is provided for quick checking.
