Description

Have students explore the realities of the meat production industry with this interactive Google Slide game!  Students will begin this "Choose Your Own Adventure" game by choosing between a running a CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation) or a Free-Range Grazing farm.  They will then move through the game as they make decisions about their meat production operation by clicking their selection on the Google Slide, which moves them to their next prompt to make a choice about.  Students will face various decisions such as the type of animal to raise, the size of the grazing plot, if they should feed their animals antibiotics, how they will deal with animal waste, and the overall impact of their operation on the ecosystem.  The game will adapt with each choice that is selected.

This product includes the interactive, clickable Google Slick Deck, which is the game, as well as a notes document where students record their choices after playing for two rounds and summarize their learning in a pro/con chart.  This ready to teach game can be played as a class, in groups, or students can play it individually. This activity can be played in person or used in a distance learning classroom in a hybrid model, synchronously, or asynchronously.

This product is a perfect add-on to any Environmental Science, Biology, Public Health, Animal, Food, or general science class studying agriculture, livestock, animal rights, ethics, or human impact on the environment. The activity can stand alone on its own to be used as a mini-lesson on meat production methods. It is suitable for students of many ages and could also be used as a fun Earth Day activity.

I used this with my AP Environmental Science students last year and the only point of frustration was that there was no way to track what choices they made in the activity- this has been UPDATED to include a choice tracker and a pros/cons graphic organizer and I am SO excited to use it again this year with this updated resource. Prior to this update, I would have given it four stars because it is still a very thorough, engaging, and thought-provoking resource. I respect that feedback was taken into account and the resource was adjusted to reflect this!

This was a fun activity to review meat production methods for my AP Environmental Science class. I felt it was unbiased and a nice reivew. We especially enjoyed the maps. There were no technical problems and everything ran smooth. I recommended they go through several times. Once for each animal and sometimes pick environmentally sound and sometimes pick options that are not environmentally friendly. This allowed to see the pros and cons for each decision. A+

I want to return this material and so wish I could. As someone who comes from an agriculture background, many of this information is misleading and gives the industry a negative image. I was so excited to use this, but I will be immediately deleting it.

Hi Dawcin, I am so sorry that this product is not quite what you expected. I designed this Choose Your Own Adventure game to fulfill the AP Environmental Science Topic 5.7, EIN-2.H Identify different methods of meat production and EIN-2.I Describe the benefits and drawbacks of different methods of meat production. By playing this game, students can weigh costs and benefits of CAFOs and Free-Range farms. All of the information I included in these slides comes from reputable sources, and the slides' speaker notes section has sources linked for each statistic. Once again, I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with your purchase, and I hope you consider looking into some of the other resources EnvironmentLA has available on TPT! :) - Zoe
