This includes a lesson on mechanisms, featuring the toilet as a case study. The history of toilet technology is covered, followed by an investigation of how a toilet mechanism works. Students are asked to label and figure out the process by which water is flushed from the tank.

The homework project asks students to build their own mechanism and to describe its purpose and function.
