Description

Here is a mini-unit on how to teach Addition using Mental Math. The focus for these handouts is based on Place Value. It is an easy way to teach Double-Digit Addition for students in Grades 2-4 where each activity builds upon the other leading up to the more difficult questions.

Included are two variations on how to teach double-digit addition using Mental Math. One uses the simple form of addition with the value of each digit and the other guides students how to add using an open number line. You can also choose to combine this mini-unit with Daily Number Talks.

Also included in this resource are posters that explain how to use each method. They can be used for Chart Paper Poster ideas.
