Description
These Mental Math Subtraction 3-Digit worksheets and activities are perfect for 2nd & 3rd grade students who are learning to subtract 3-digit numbers. Everything you need to teach the mental math subtraction strategy is here in this resource from direct instruction, to guided practice, to independent practice, to assessment, to center activities.
These mental math subtraction 3-digit worksheets and activities are scaffolded. They have students write out how they are breaking apart the numbers to guide them until they can do it fully in their head.
Here's what's included in this resource:
- Display Pages: These are the landscape pages. Use these to introduce the “I can” statement and to teach the skills. Model solving the problems or have students help you.
- Worksheets: Print these off for students. Do a couple problems together and have students do the rest by themselves.
- Scoot Activity: Print these on cardstock and cut the cards apart. Tape the problems up around your classroom. Print the recording sheet for students. Students go around and solve the mental math subtraction problems. They write their answers on the recording page. I like to have students work with a partner to do these. This activity also works great as a center activity.
- Puzzle Activity: Print these off and cut them apart. Students match up the steps involved to solve the equations mentally. I also like to have students work with a partner to solve these. When students are done, I have them raise their hands and I will do a quick look over before they put them away.
- Matching Activity: Print these off and cut them apart. Students solve the equations mentally and then match them next to the answer.
- Exit Tickets: Use these to quickly assess how students understood the lesson and concepts taught. There are 3 different versions so that students can have a different ticket than the student sitting next to them.
- Answer Keys: Have students check their own worksheets and scoot activities with these answer keys.
