Description

Use these differentiated menus for students to practice real world math skills. There are ten different menus in two different levels. For each menu there are two worksheets for multistep word problems. The menus and questions come in a ready to print PDF version or there are links to digital versions using Google Slides™. The problems are challenging and will require students to really think through the problems. Students can answer the problems using addition and subtraction with regrouping skills. More advanced students may use multiplication at times, but it is not required.

Use this resource in the classroom or with distance learning using the digital version of the menu and project.

An open ended create your own math problem sheet is also included. There is also an editable PowerPoint file or Google Slides™ link where you can type your own problems to individualize and personalize problems for your students. A mini project where students can create their own menus, word problems, and orders is also included. Use the open-ended printable for students to explain their thinking through a problem of their choice.

Use this resource for whole group, small group, partner activity, independent practice, or in a math center. Choose the menus that work best for your students. The easier version has two-digit numbers while the more difficult version has 4 digit numbers.

Solve two-step word problems using the four operations. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations. For example, observe that 4 times a number is always even, and explain why 4 times a number can be decomposed into two equal addends.
Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison, e.g., interpret 35 = 5 × 7 as a statement that 35 is 5 times as many as 7 and 7 times as many as 5. Represent verbal statements of multiplicative comparisons as multiplication equations.
