Description
This is my favorite microscope lab because the students really get to see organisms swimming around in the water. I ask the students to bring in water samples from water sources around their neighborhood. Make sure to tell them that you don't want a water sample from the gutter. I have a digital microscope that I use to project the images on my overhead screen. There is nothing better than seeing a 3 foot long mosquito larva projected on the overhead screen!!! This activity supports Grade Seven California State Science Standard 7A - Select and use appropriate tools and technology (including calculators, computers, balances, spring scales, microscopes, and binoculars) to perform tests, collect data, and display data.

This was very engaging and interesting!! My students loved it!
The kids loved this lab! I had several students bring in samples for 5 points extra credit. It is nice to have a diversity of samples. They only had to record information for 2 samples. We found so much! Make sure you have good microscopes! We need to purchase better ones.
Students loved this activity and did not want to stop exploring the pond water for microorganisms. The chart and identification resources were fantastic!
This was an awesome resource for my students and helped in their learning and understanding!
