Mini Paragraph Writing Prompts
Share

Description

I believe that these mini-paragraphs help students write better paragraphs. For example, a student who struggles with summarizing or using transitions can use this model to write concise four-sentence paragraphs. Therefore, this template should be a great addition to a writer's notebook. However, teachers could also expand these paragraphs into longer assignments.

Great sentence starters for lower level students who always say, "I don't know how to write a paragraph!"

This will be a huge help to my 5th graders when writing about current events as well as historical events. What was the idea behind the set numbers? Thank you for offering for free! Appreciated!!

The set numbers makes it easier for me to assign a set. For example, if we were doing a prompt and I wanted them to use Set 1, I would expect their mini-paragraph would include I believe, For Example, Therefore, and However. It makes it easier for me to also quickly see which set they use if they choose their own mini-paragraphs. The goal is to use these four sentence starters instead of picking and choosing different ones (although you could have them pick). Choosing the same transitions/sentence starters forces their choice a bit so they have to think critically about how they respond.
