Product Description

After hearing my co-workers complain about teaching modals, I made it my mission to enjoy teaching modals. (I’m contrary that way.) I spent a lot of time making grammar activities for modals that my students have always had a lot of fun doing. In fact, they were doing one while I was being observed by ACCET, and the observer loved how engaged they were. Recently I realized that I never made task cards for modals, so here they are. Teachers will appreciate having an answer key to help speed up checking student work. Students will enjoy working with sentences written for older students.

This 40 card task card set cycles through the following eight types of questions:

  • IDENTIFY: Students read a sentence and identify the modal.
  • CHOOSE: Students read through four sentences and choose the grammatically correct one.
  • WRITE: Students insert a causative verb of their choice (that makes sense) into a given sentence.
  • CONNECT: Students connect modals to their meanings.
  • MATCH: Studnets match the modal meaning to the modal used in the sentence.
  • FIX: Students read a sentence, find the error, and fix it.
  • LABEL: Students label a rule as true or false.
  • CREATE: Students create a sentence of their own using a given modal and a given meaning.

This was created for adult to secondary students.
