"I needed something for my older students. This was a perfect way to challenge them during my coin-counting lesson. I used it on my Smartboard as a slide lesson, and we raced in teams to determine the riddles."

Description

Using US money for math is engaging for students. Along with coin recognition and counting money, these 20 task cards use money to reinforce math skills such as odd/even, patterns, combinations, probability, adding/subtracting, logic, and extra thinking. The questions transition from easier to harder so you can differentiate.

How is this product different from the other TPT products?

Most money task cards show coins and have students count them or solve simple word problems, which are great for identification and fluency. Students can quickly go through a stack of these task cards. My task cards require students to think, look for patterns, and persevere, while identifying money. Each card takes minutes instead of seconds to solve, requiring higher thinking.

How can I use this product?

I have used these task cards as a math center, journal prompts, whole class Scoot game, class discussions, or even assessments.

What is a sample question?

Beginning card

I have $.25 in my pocket. I don’t have any quarters or pennies. What are all the possible combinations that could be in my pocket?

Advanced card

I have $1.23. I have the same amount of each coin. What combination is in my pocket?

What is included?

The 16 page PDF file contains:

Cover page/notes/copyright info (3 pages)

• 6 pages with 4 money task cards on each page

• 1 page with 4 blanks if you want to add on your own

• 3 pages for your student to record their answers

• 2 pages of answer keys

• 1 page for tracking students

Is this available in a bundle as well?
