1.NBT.B.3: Number & Operations in Base Ten
Comparing numbers is an essential skill to build in order to provide a strong foundation for mathematical reasoning and problem solving. Monster Squeeze is a game designed to engage students in mathematical thinking while having a fun experience with friends.
You can choose to use this game a few different ways:
-on your IWB with the whole class (or simply to model)
-for small group instruction
-in partnerships
For learners just beginning to grasp the concept of comparing numbers, a blank number line has been provided. Students write the numbers 0-10 in the boxes, and then use those numbers to play. Higher level learners, with a stronger foundation of number sense, can use the numbers lines that are already filled in (see preview). By cutting the strips and gluing them together at the ends, students will have a wider-range of 2-digit numbers to ask questions about while playing.
This zip file contains:
1. Monster Squeeze PDF file:
-directions for how to play
-monsters to print and cut for use while playing
-a blank number line template to be filled in (cut before distributing)
-pages with numbers ranging from 1-74 to cut/paste number lines
2. Monster Squeeze IWB (ActivInspire) file:
-sliding number line to set your level of difficulty (0-63)
-notes page with directions to view while playing/modeling

love monsters
This was such a great resource and great for the kids!
Great resource! It helped me close the learning gap with my students.
My students love to play this game and it was a fun way to have students take a break from the digital world of learning.
My students loved that they could take the game further by making the number line bigger than what our math curriculum gave to us.
Awesome thanks!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Really goes along nicely with Everyday Math.
It's nice to hear of others finding success with this resource! Thanks for commenting.
Perfect!
YAY! Thanks for the comment and rating.
