Vowel-Based Word Reading Game - A Partner Activity for Learning and Practicing Reading In Hebrew

This activity is designed for students to work in pairs. Children can sit together at a table, work in small groups during a lesson, or use the activity in a learning center. Use the classroom setup to create an engaging and productive partner activity that supports learning.

The game encourages repeated reading of target words through a simple game mechanism based on rolling a die. It is suitable for students who are learning Hebrew vowel signs (nikud) and are in the process of acquiring Hebrew reading skills.

During the game, students repeatedly read the same words (each participant may read each word up to three times). This repetition helps build reading fluency, strengthens automatic word recognition, and increases students’ confidence.

What’s Included:

• 15 colorful game boards with fully vowel-pointed words, organized by vowel sounds (3 boards for each sound group):
• 3 game boards with words containing Kamatz, Patach, and Shva
• 3 game boards with words containing Hirik (alongside Kamatz, Patach, and Shva)
• 3 game boards with words containing Holam (alongside Hirik, Kamatz, Patach, and Shva)
• 3 game boards with words containing Tzere and Segol (alongside Holam, Hirik, Kamatz, Patach, and Shva)
• 3 mixed game boards with words containing Shuruk and Kubutz, including words with all vowel sounds alongside Shuruk and Kubutz.

Game Board Structure

Each board includes 6 illustrations. Each illustration corresponds to a different result of the die roll (1-6).
In addition, each board contains two tables of written, vowel-pointed words - one table for each participant.

How to Play

Each student takes turns rolling the die, identifying the matching illustration, finding the corresponding written word, reading it aloud, and covering it with a token on their game table (each student has their own table). The turn then passes to the next player, and the game continues in this way.

If a student rolls the die but the word has already been covered three times on their table, the turn automatically passes to the next player.

The winner is the first student to complete a full column on their game board.
If the game progresses very quickly, you may decide that the winner is the first student to fill their entire table.

Materials Needed for Each Pair

• Laminated game boards
• One six-sided die
• Tokens for covering the words

הפעילות מיועדת לעבודה בזוגות: הילדים יכולים לשבת יחד ליד שולחן, לעבוד בקבוצות במהלך השיעור או לפעול במרכז למידה. נצלו את הסידור הכיתתי כדי לאפשר פעילות זוגית פעילה, מהנה ומקדמת למידה.

המשחק מעודד קריאה רפטטיבית של מילות המטרה באמצעות מנגנון משחק פשוט המבוסס על הטלת קובייה.

• 3 לוחות משחק עם מילים בשורוק ובקובוץ - לוחות מעורבים הכוללים מילים בכל התנועות, לצד שורוק וקובוץ.

מבנה לוח המשחק

בכל לוח מופיעים 6 איורים. כל איור משויך לערך אחר של הטלת הקובייה (1–6).
בנוסף, בכל לוח מופיעות שתי טבלאות מילים כתובות ומנוקדות - טבלה אחת לכל משתתף.

מהלך הפעילות

כל תלמיד בתורו מטיל קובייה, מזהה את האיור המתאים, מחפש את המילה הכתובה התואמת, מקריא אותה ומכסה אותה באסימון בטבלת המשחק שלו (לכל תלמיד יש טבלה משלו). לאחר מכן התור עובר לשחקן הבא, וכך ממשיכים לסירוגין.

אם אחד התלמידים הטיל קובייה אך המילה כבר כוסתה שלוש פעמים בטבלה שלו, התור עובר אוטומטית לשחקן הבא.

המנצח הוא התלמיד הראשון שמצליח למלא טור שלם בלוח המשחק שלו.
אם המשחק מתקדם במהירות, ניתן להגדיר שהמנצח הוא הראשון שממלא את כל הטבלה שלו.
