Product Description

The Decimal Numbers presentations give the child a concrete understanding and practice performing operations using decimal numbers. Understanding the concept of decimal numbers is a pre-requisite for work with fractions and with work with relative numbers. It is an integral component of the math curriculum, which Montessori herself compared to the "tree that supports the parts" for the child's understanding of the concept of numeration.

The pre-requisite for this unit is the Function of the Decimal System, which can be found here:

Unit 1: Function of the Decimal Numbers System

The Bundle for the Function of the Decimal Numbers System can be found here (it includes a video and printable fraction pieces):
Unit 1: Function of the Decimal System BUNDLE

The presentations in this unit are used:

  • To introduce the concept of addition of decimal numbers to the child.
  • To introduce the concept of subtraction of decimal numbers to the child.
  • To introduce the concept of multiplication of decimal numbers to the child.
  • To introduce the concept of graphing multiplication to the child.
  • To introduce the concept of division of decimal numbers to the child.
  • To bring the child to the abstract execution of multiplication work between whole numbers and decimal numbers.
  • To multiply a decimal number by a whole number using the decimal checkerboard material.
  • To help further the child's passage to abstraction.

*Fraction circle pieces can be purchased separately in my store here:
