The Decimal Numbers presentations give the child a concrete understanding of the concept of decimal numbers. Understanding the concept of decimal numbers is a pre-requisite for work with fractions. It is an integral component of the math curriculum, which Montessori herself compared to the "tree that supports the parts" for the child's understanding of the concept of numeration.

The presentations in this unit are used:

• To introduce the concept of decimal numbers and their quantity to the child.*
• To introduce the concept of decimal numbers and their number symbols to the child.
• To help further the child's passage to abstraction.
• To help the child associate the symbol with the quantity

This resource includes:

• Material analysis for the Yellow Decimal Board
• A series of 3 Presentations with a little project to support learning
• Detailed step-by-step presentation instructions
• Photographs and Illustrations
• With each material analysis presentation is given the purpose, direct aim(s), indirect aim(s), control of error, and points of consciousness

This unit is useful for children from ages 8-10 years of age and up.

After the Decimal Numbers Unit, the child will be ready for the unit on Operations (Addition, Multiplication, Subtraction, and Division) with the Decimal System.
