Description

A Monumental STEM Event.

Engineering a Pipe Cleaner Structure

Low-prep and easy materials.

  • Have a small window of time for a quick engineering energizer?
  • Want a hands-on activity for indoor recess?
  • Need a brain push up to energize the kids after lunch?

Teachers are saying:

"I really like your creative ideas and that the instructions are clear and easy for students to follow."

This fun STEM building activity requires only a bag of pipe cleaners (just 15 per team or individual). It is super easy to explain, a breeze to clean up, and the kids have a blast. Teacher guide and student pages included in packet.

We included suggestions to make it more challenging if you want to repeat it on another day. And best of all, this will work for all ages…even adults if you want to use it for a STEM professional development activity in order to introduce children’s engineering.

Engineering Energizers are quick activities that can be used as a beginning or end of the week “Brain Push-up”, used for later discussions and a preview for longer engineering problems that use the engineering design process, or as a team building activity. Using easy to gather materials and having a short time limit, they are also great for one’s substitute teacher emergency file. Despite their short length and limited materials, they still provide great insight to a group’s problem solving and communication skills. Whether used in the classroom, at home or at camp, Engineering Energizers are a great addition to a STEM program.
