Description
Learning through exploration is the name of the game - after completing this unit your kids will have a high-level understanding of several of the moon's main characteristics (and be able to explain common misconceptions too!).
This unit contains everything you need to spend between 2-4 weeks learning about and exploring ten "rumors" about the moon:
1. The moon is made of cheese.
2. There is a man on the moon.
3. The moon doesn't move in the sky.
4. The moon disappears during the day.
5. There is a "dark side" of the moon.
6. The moon has no gravity.
7. The moon gives off its own light.
8. The moon is bigger than the stars in the sky.
9. The moon changes shape during the month.
10. The moon's phases are caused by the shadow of the Earth on the moon.
Inside this unit, you will receive:
- Moon fact and fiction sort to be used a pre- and post - test
- Rumor and fact plates
- Complete directions for all hands-on experiments, plus reflection sheets for students
- Non-fiction moon articles and graphic organizers and teacher answer keys
- Integrated math activities
- Pictures and exploration of this unit in action

CCSS2.MD.A.1
Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
CCSS2.MD.A.2
Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen.
CCSS3.MD.B.4
Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units-whole numbers, halves, or quarters.
