Description

The Four Square is used for bell work or beginning of lesson warm up for math. It goes great with Envisions Math Curriculum. All four squares have a specific purpose, review, touching the lesson for the day, prepping for test success, and a concept that is typically challenging for kids. I display the 4 square of the day on the board and students enter the classroom in the morning to immediately start their problems in their math journals. This allows for great morning starts and transitions where the kids are working their brains and math skills right at the start. I have had numerous schools in my area use the four squares with their 3rd graders and they all have loved it. Feel free to change names in word problems to make them more enjoyable for your students.

I used this as a Monday warm-up - "Four Square". I projected this on the whiteboard and the kids drew a 4-square on their desks using dry-erase markers to solve. I chose one student to walk around the room with a key I prepared to check their friends' answers. I love that I could edit the pages so I could group together 2 squares from current math topics, one square that was a review and one that was a preview. Great resource, thank you!

How is the Four Square working out for you? Do you use it as bell work in the morning?
