Multi-digit multiplication is taught through multiple methods such as area model, partial products algorithm, and the distributive property. It is considered one of the most "challenging" concepts to teach students. The reason for this view is, in my opinion, the fact that understanding multi-digit multiplication requires students to have gained a deep understanding of place value, multiplication as a concept, and especially the distributive property.

This jumbo collection of print and digital (google slides) activities will help students practice multi-digit multiplication in many different ways. The unit includes

  1. Practicing 1x2, 1x3, 2x2, and 2x3-digit multiplication using the area models.
  2. Practicing 1x2, 1x3 2x2, and 2x3-digit multiplication using the partial products algorithm.
  3. Explanations, visuals, and examples.
  4. Puzzles/challenges with the area model for 1x2, 1x3, 2x2, and 2x3-digit multiplication.
  5. Puzzles with the partial products algorithm for 1x2,1x3,2x2, and 2x3-digit multiplication for deep understanding and problem-solving.
  6. Mental math activities with multiplication tables and more.
  7. Multiplication Word problems

The resource includes 134 digital activities (google slides) and 130 print activity cards as well as 22 worksheets.

How to use the activities

You can use the activities as warm-ups, to initiate discussions, examples on the smartboard, homework, assessment, challenge, escape rooms, practice, and more.

The worksheets can be made into a booklet (cover included)

The slides are to be used in the edit mode so that the students can move objects/numbers to complete the tasks.

The traditional long multiplication algorithm method is not included in this resource.
