Description

Make solving multi-digit multiplication problems engaging and stress-free with this Battleship-style practice game! Students solve problems to locate and "hit" their opponent's ships, giving them repeated practice.

Perfect for 5th-7th grade math, this activity works well for review days, partner work, test prep, early finishers, or stations. It boosts confidence while keeping students motivated and actively thinking.

GAME 1: Two-Digit by One-Digit Multiplication

GAME 2: Three-Digit by One-Digit Multiplication

GAME 3: Two-Digit by Two-Digit Multiplication

GAME 4: Three-Digit by Two-Digit Multiplication

GAME 5: Multi-Digit Multiplication

HOW TO PLAY:

  • STEP 1 - Each pair of students receives a set of boards (Player 1 Board and Player 2 Board).
  • STEP 2 - On the bottom board, each player lightly colors 8 spaces to mark where their ships are hidden.
  • STEP 3 - Players solve the factoring problems on the top board to make a guess. If Player 1 solves a problem and calls out a coordinate, Player 2 checks that spot on their bottom board. If the answer is correct, Player 2 tells them they are correct and whether it was a hit or a miss. If the answer is incorrect, Player 2 simply says the answer is incorrect, and Player 1 can try again on their next turn. All players should mark their guesses with an X to keep track.
  • STEP 4 - Players continue taking turns solving problems and making guesses until all ships are found.

*Each player's bottom board shows the answers for their opponent's problems.
