Description
This LOW PREP and differentiated small group activity is a great way for students to practice multiplying multi-digit numbers, estimating, and subtracting across zeroes. Students can use any method (area model, partial products, standard algorithm) to multiply and choose problems from three levels of difficulty.
5 mats (4 with leveled questions) are included:
✅ Mat #1 includes 2 x 1-digit and 3 x 1-digit problems
✅ Mat #2 includes 3 x 1-digit and 4 x 1-digit problems
✅ Mat #3 includes 2 x 2 digit problems
✅ Mat #4 includes 3 x 2 and 3 x 3-digit problems
✅ Mat #5 is blank and editable to customize (include fractions or decimals!)
Each activity mat includes three sets of multiplication problems that increase in difficulty. Students who are struggling can solve problems in Level 1 or 2, and those who need a challenge can solve problems in Level 3. As students build their confidence, they can move up levels and celebrate when they do!
Answer keys are included for the multiplication problems only since estimations may vary (some may use compatible numbers). Another option is to have students use a calculator to check all sections of the activity mat.
Print mats double-sided (1 & 2 and 3 & 4) to save paper, then place them in dry-erase sleeves for a reusable, no-prep activity!
