Description

Need an engaging way to practice multi-digit multiplication this spring? This crime solving Math Mystery will have your students excited to work on solving 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication problems and practice their math skills, all while using critical thinking, working cooperatively, and having fun!

This resource is timely for spring, and can be a great refresher for older students or kids who have learned the skill in the past. Multi-digit multiplication is one of my favorite and most important skills to spiral back to, as students will need to constantly use this skill as they move forward in math! This resource is a perfect basic refresher of the skill, as it will keep students engaged and focused on a task other than repeated math problems!

In this activity, students are given the task of determining which teacher has kidnapped the school mascot. They are presented with clues, which are gained by solving problems with multi-step equations. These clues can be cross-referenced against an evidence list, and students will slowly eliminate suspects from the possibility pool.

This activity is fantastic to be done independently or in pairs, and is a great way to get your students up and moving. Your kids will be eager to solve more problems and do more math, because they will all want to be the first to solve the mystery!

This resource includes 14 clue cards, an introductory story line, work space for each clue, an evidence list, and answer keys. It is a quick prep and will be a favorite in your room year after year!

This resource exceeded my expectations in every way. It is well-organized, easy to follow, and flexible enough to fit a variety of classroom needs. The directions were clear, the materials were thoughtfully designed, and everything was ready to use with minimal prep — which is a huge time-saver. My students were highly engaged, and the activities supported meaningful learning and discussion. I especially appreciate how intentional the creator was in aligning the content with standards and providing options for differentiation. It worked beautifully with both whole-group instruction and small-group support. Thank you for creating such a thorough, high-quality resource! I will absolutely be using it again.
