Description

This is a great way to engage the whole class as your students practice their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of multi-digit whole numbers.

What will the mystery mosaic be? They'll each need to do their part to reach the collaborative goal.

Students each solve their individual 12 problems then use their answers to colour-by-number their section of the big mosaic. Every student has a different set of problems, so no copying is possible. Every student's worksheet is needed to create the mosaic, so everyone is accountable!

  • The more sheets to the mosaic the bigger the pixel squares on each worksheet, and therefore, the bigger the end result.

Be sure the check out the whole Collaborative Math Mosaic directory, sorted by topic!

The student buy-in factor is HUGE with these worksheets; they all want to see the finished picture come together!

Leave the picture a secret or show it for motivation… it’s your call.

All my colouring worksheets use standard pencil-crayon colours found in the Crayola 24 pack. For best results, encourage DARK colouring, and stick to one colouring medium. (i.e. don't mix pencil crayons with markers with finger paint!) Perhaps a class set of pencil crayons would be a fun math department investment!

Feedback, a top-star rating, suggestions, and frontline stories are always welcomed!

This was a good, challenging review of multi-digit operations with a fun final outcome! My students couldn't wait to see what the picture would turn out to be, so they all were sure to finish the assignment. It's clear the author put a lot of time into this resource--thank you!
