Description

Get ready to ditch your typical solving equations worksheets! These editable, low-prep, and scaffolded interactive self-checking partner activities are an engaging way for students to improve their mathematical fluency with solving multi-step equations, including equations with the variable on both sides. These partner activities were always a hit in my classroom, and I know your students will enjoy them, too!

You receive FIVE partner activities for solving multi-step equations in this resource. Partner A solves the equations on the left side of the activity, and Partner B solves the equations on the right side of the activity. Partner A and Partner B have different equations but, if solved correctly, Partner A’s answers will match with each of Partner B’s answers.

These activities can be easily differentiated to meet your students’ needs and provide built-in instant feedback. They are perfect for review days and sub days when you need a quick print-and-go resource to supplement your middle school math and Algebra 1 curriculum. If you're looking for a fun, interactive way for students to practice solving multi-step equations, this is it!

What’s included?

  • Multi-Step Equations Partner Practice #1 (variable on one side with combining like terms and the distributive property)
  • Multi-Step Equations Partner Practice #2 (variable on both sides, including combining like terms and the distributive property)
  • Multi-Step Equations Partner Practice #3 (variable on both sides, including equations with no solution and infinitely many solutions)
  • Multi-Step Equations Partner Practice #4 (combination of #1 and #2)
  • Multi-Step Equations Partner Practice #5 (same as #4 but includes equations with no solution and infinitely many solutions)
  • Fully worked answer keys for all partner practice activities

Added Benefits:

  • Builds Student Collaboration: Students work together, explaining their thinking and learning from each other.
  • Encourages Active Participation: Everyone has a role, keeping all students engaged.
  • Supports Differentiation: Activities can be adapted for students who need extra practice or challenge.
  • Saves Teacher Time: Ready-to-go activities that require minimal prep.
  • Promotes Mastery of Concepts: Frequent partner practice helps students master and retain how to solve multi-step equations.
  • Versatile Use: Perfect for review, homework, or small group instruction.

Solve linear equations in one variable.
Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms, until an equivalent equation of the form 𝘹 = 𝘢, 𝘢 = 𝘢, or 𝘢 = 𝘣 results (where 𝘢 and 𝘣 are different numbers).
Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms.
