Description

This powerpoint has over 50 slides of multistep story problems. Each slide contains one problem. These could be used at the end of 2nd grade in preparation for 3rd and 4th grade. I use this as a problem of the day to start math class each day. Students are able to work in partners to solve and talk through each step, checking each other's work. We then solve together and point out different strategies that were used to solve for an appropriate solution. The slides can also be printed out and used as cards to pass out for practice. My main goal in creating this was to expose my students to problems that make them think and move beyond the surface level thinking. It really pushed them to think critically about what information they know, what they need to know and what steps to take to get them to that answer.
