This product was designed to assess students understanding of multidigit multiplication and then later their understanding of multiplication of decimals.
My 5th grade team started the year by focusing our math intervention time on multidigit multiplication. Once we assess the students we put their scores in a spreadsheet so we can sort them into groups. We had 3 separate scores: 1 x 2 digit, 2 x 2 digit, and 2 x 3 digit. The last 2 years we have found that students are easily sorted into several groups. Those who struggle with basic facts and the general concept of multiplication all the way up to those that remember the most of the process and just need a brush up. We spent 30 minutes a day for several weeks on multiplication in our intervention groups. Once a week we would give the students another CFA and resort the groups. It is important to keep the struggling groups as small as possible (5-10) in order to give the students the attention they need. Our higher groups often have 28- 31 students.
