Do you need a game/activity for math stations in your classroom?
This is a perfect game for those students who need practice to continue to work on their fluency with their multiplication facts. There are two versions of this game, one using a 1-6 number cube (practicing the multiplication facts 1x1-6x6) and another using a 4-9 number cube (practicing the multiplication facts 4x4-9x9) so you can differentiate in your classroom.
Materials:
1. A partner
2. Two number cubes (either 1-6 or 4-9)
3. Two different colored crayons, markers, etc.
4. Game board/sheet
Directions:
1. Students find a partner, both choose a color, and record it on the sheet.
2. Taking turns, each student rolls the number cubes, multiplies them, and finds the product on the game board, coloring it in with their color.
3. Once a “tower” is completely filled, the student with the most blocks colored in that “tower” writes their initials above it, they have won that “tower!”
4. The game continues until every “tower” has been “conquered,” the person who has won the most “towers” wins the game!
5. This game is a lengthy game, usually it is completed over the course of a few days.
My students love to play this game. They usually have multiple games going with multiple friends at a time. It is a game they will beg to play over and over again. What more can you ask for when you want them to become fluent with their multiplication facts?! I hope your students enjoy it as much as mine!
