Description

Multiplication, riddles, drawing, and discovery!

Grid drawings are a fun and creative way to practice multiplication facts!

Students must:

1. Solve each multiplication problem to determine the correct answer box

2. Find the box on the grid sheet that corresponds with the correct multiplication answer box on the problems sheet

3. Transfer the lines from their answer box onto the blank grid.

*Once they finish, students will have four completed drawings that will answer the riddles on the grid sheets! (And to color if they like.)

This is a great option for:

- mini-lesson,

- self-led learning,

- summer multiplication practice,

- small group work,

- virtual instruction or assignment,

- part of a differentiation strategy,

- for use with older students who need multiplication practice,

- cross-curricular activity for math and art,

- or a Gifted/Talented activity...potentially as part of medieval or dragon unit.

This activity is appropriate for any age who could use some practice with their multiplication facts, though it is probably most appropriate for grades 2-4.

Included in this resource are:

- Instructions for teacher OR student-led instruction

- Printable worksheets and answer keys

- 4 pages of multiplication problems (36 problems) at two different levels

(Level 1 = 1-10 multiplication facts; Level 2 = 1-10 x 11-20 multiplication facts)

- 4 pages of answer keys for multiplication problems

- 2 grid pages with 4 riddles for drawing OR cut and paste options

- 2 pages of drawing as grid cut outs for a cut and paste option

If you enjoy grid drawing for your students, let me know! I'll be making more activities with grid drawing soon.

Multiply one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10 in the range 10–90 (e.g., 9 × 80, 5 × 60) using strategies based on place value and properties of operations.
Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
