Description
Multiplication in First Grade
In our first grade, we focus on the conceptual understanding of multiplication. Due to this emphasis, you will find basic, low-level multiplication facts in this multiplication game. It is designed to solidify conceptual understanding before moving on to larger numbers.
The first version focuses on identifying the number of groups and the number of items in each group. Higher students have the option of writing the total number of objects below as well. The second version focuses on making the connection between multiplication and repeated addition. Once again, it’s all about conceptual understanding.
Cut out the lettered picture cards. The game can be played two ways:
1. Students rotate around desks, with a time limit at each desk, and write the answer to the card on that particular desk on their answer sheet.
2. Cards are placed around the room, taped to walls and objects. Students are given free roam of the room and write as many answers as they can within a given time.
