Description

This is a worksheet to be used with my music video "Multiplication" from my YouTube channel "mrsteffessongs" in which I sing about multiplication. This sheet is primarily for grades 3-5. This can be given as extra credit, homework, review for middle grades, an introduction to multiplication, or just notes and examples. An answer key is provided and common core standards are referenced in each section title.

The first section has students answer questions based on an example from my video showing that multiplication is repeated addition (groups of objects). Then there are three exercises of drawing pictures and writing equations to solve multiplication problems. The second section has students finding the area of a rectangle with lengths 3 and 2 + 5, similar to one shown in my video, followed by two similar exercises. The third section has students solve a word problem requiring them to multiply fractions (pictorially and numerically), which is copied from my video, then there is an exercise to multiply fractions using the rule from the example/video.

Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
