Digital Math LESSONS... Multiplicative Comparison (Google Slides/PowerPoint)

Imagine your students being able to use multiplication and division to solve real world problems involving multiplicative comparison. All you need is a PROJECTOR OR...

  • Google Classroom
  • 1:1 Classroom
  • Flipped Classroom
  • Nearpod
  • Blended Learning Classroom
  • Canvas LMS

These lessons will effectively guide your students to use a visual model to interpret a multiplicative comparison. It will help your students transfer their concrete understanding of multiplication and division to the abstract. It is designed to enhance conceptual development, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.

Digital Lessons are broken into 3 lessons (Chalkboard Theme):

  1. Lesson One: Multiplicative Comparison for an Unknown Product. -Editable Lesson Plan: Google Docs or Microsoft -YouTube Video: Custom Chalkboard Theme -I CAN STATEMENT -Nine instructional slides that include guided practice and independent practice with answer keys -Kahoot!! Game - Checks for Understanding for an Unknown Product (10 Questions)
  2. Lesson Two: Multiplicative Comparison for Unknown Group Size. -Editable Lesson Plan: Google Docs or Microsoft -YouTube Video: Custom Chalkboard Theme -I CAN STATEMENT -Nine instructional slides that include guided practice and independent practice with answer keys -Kahoot!! Game - Checks for Understanding for an Unknown Group Size (10 Questions)
  3. Lesson Three: Multiplicative Comparison for the Unknown Number of Groups. -Editable Lesson Plan: Google Docs or Microsoft -YouTube Video: Custom Chalkboard Theme -I CAN STATEMENT -Ten instructional slides that include guided practice and independent practice with answer keys -Kahoot!! Game - Checks for Understanding for the Unknown Number of Groups (10 Questions)

MATH TASK CARDS 4.OA.1 & 4.OA.2

Concrete -- Pictorial --Abstract: These task cards enables students to encounter math in a meaningful way and transfer their math skills from the concrete to the abstract. It allows student understanding before learning the "RULES!"

Math Task Cards aligned to Common Core Math Standards:

4.OA.1 - Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison, e.g., interpret 35 = 5 × 7 as a statement that 35 is 5 times as many as 7 and 7 times as many as 5. Represent verbal statements of multiplicative comparisons as multiplication equations.

4.OA.2 - Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to choose a comparison statement that represents a given multiplication equation.
  2. Students will be able to choose a multiplication equation that represents a verbal statement of multiplicative comparison.
  3. Students will be able to interpret multiplication equations as comparisons.
  4. Students will be able to represent a verbal statement of multiplicative comparison as a multiplication equation.
  5. Students will be able to multiply or divide to solve contextual problems involving multiplicative comparison.
