Cooking with Fractions is a fun activity for Math 7/8/9 classes (the Fractions unit). Students will practice multiplying/dividing fractions through this activity.

Here are a couple ways you could use this resource.

OPTION 1:

• Students can find their own recipe and fill out the blank recipe sheet. Students can print a photo of their food and paste it onto the recipe sheet. You could get them to actually make the recipe at home and take a photo, or find an image online and print it (remind them to cite/reference the image). Alternatively, the students can sketch out a picture of their food.
• After the recipe sheet is filled out, they will double, halve, and triple their recipe. They will record the new ingredient measurements on the provided answer sheet.
  • There is also a custom answer sheet in case you want the students to cut down or scale up their recipe with a value of your choosing (e.g: cut recipe into a third, quadruple the recipe).

• You could get the students to show all of their work using the provided show-your-work sheets. Alternatively, they can show their work on a separate piece of paper.

OPTION 2:

• There are 3 different recipe cards included in this resource. Give students one or all recipe card(s).
• Students will double, halve, and triple their recipe(s). They will record the new ingredient measurements on the provided answer sheet. Answer keys are available for these recipe cards.
  • There is a custom answer sheet in case you want the students to cut down or scale up their recipe with a value of your choosing (e.g: cut recipe into a third, quadruple the recipe).

• You could get the students to show their work using the provided show-your-work sheets.

Einstein's Where's the Fish Riddle will challenge students to use logical reasoning. They will use the clues given to fill out a grid that will help them organize information. By using the process of elimination, the students can deduce who the culprit was.

This resource was used as a fun warm-up activity for Math 9 / 10.

This riddle can be used as an activity in any class not just Math.
