Fractions of a Quantity Multiplying Fractions by Whole Numbers Fractions of a Whole Multiplying Fractions by whole numbers.

Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a whole number by a fraction.

This is a no-prep printable challenge.

There are 3 worksheets of increasing difficulty.

All answers are included.

For Challenges 1 and 2:

For each challenge there is a question sheet and an answer sheet.

There are 25 answers on the answer sheet, but only 24 questions on the question sheet.

The challenge is for students to match each question to an answer.

There will be one answer left.

When they find the extra answer, students can create their own question for it.

For Worksheet 3:

Students are asked to work out fractions of money.

At the end they add up all the money to find a total answer.

This resource can be used as worksheets, or you can read out the questions and let students cross off their answers in a quiz/bingo style.

Understand a fraction 𝘒/𝘣 as a multiple of 1/𝘣. For example, use a visual fraction model to represent 5/4 as the product 5 Γ— (1/4), recording the conclusion by the equation 5/4 = 5 Γ— (1/4).
Understand a multiple of 𝘒/𝘣 as a multiple of 1/𝘣, and use this understanding to multiply a fraction by a whole number. For example, use a visual fraction model to express 3 Γ— (2/5) as 6 Γ— (1/5), recognizing this product as 6/5. (In general, 𝘯 Γ— (𝘒/𝘣) = (𝘯 Γ— 𝘒)/𝘣.)
