Description

This product is fun and so easy to prepare. Just print on cardstock and cut out and you are set! If you choose to use the Quiz Quiz Trade you will only need to make one set of cards but the concentration option will need you need a set for every 3 or 4 students.

Fun way to get kids thinking about real-world situations for multiplying a fraction by a whole number. It supports this Common Core State Standard:

4.NF.4c Solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem.

These 24 cards can be used for a variety of activities in the math classroom.  They can be used for a Quiz-Quiz-Trade activity (see Kagan Cooperative Learning materials for directions on this structure).  They can also be used as task cards for independent work or for partner activities. They can also be used for a concentration-style game.  Any way you use them, they are great to test for an in-depth understanding of Common Core Standard 4.NF.4c. There is also a set of blank cards to use if you would like to add some of your own questions.

Concentration

  1. Copy the cards on cardstock (one-sided copies).
  2. Cut cards apart.
  3. Lay the cards face down and have students take turns turning over 2 cards.  If the cards are a question/answer match, the student keeps the cards. If not, the cards are turned back over and the next student takes a turn.
  4. Play continues until all cards have been “won”.

Quiz-Quiz-Trade and 2 sided task cards

  1. Copy cards onto cardstock (two-sided copies).
  2. Cut cards apart.
  3. Use cards in the desired way.

Once your students have mastered this skill, they just might be ready to tackle this activity:
