This interactive, hands-on, and digital EASEL math lesson (there is no printable component) helps students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade visualize fractions OF fractions using pattern blocks and a real world example of a chocolate bar. It is a great introduction to the concept of multiplying fractions for your fraction unit.
How to Use:
Students can drag and drop the pieces on each slide to visualize the relationships between the pattern blocks and fractional parts of a chocolate bar.
- There are self-checking multiple choice questions throughout to ensure comprehension.
- There is a drag-and-drop quiz (self-checking) at the end to ensure engagement and understanding.
- You could present the lesson to the whole class on an interactive whiteboard. You can give your students pattern blocks so they can follow along in a hands-on way.
