Description

The area model is a wonderfully visual model to help students conceptually understand multi-digit multiplication. When built using base-ten blocks, it is even more effective. It pairs perfectly with the partial products method for recording multiplication and helps build an understanding of the standard algorithm.

This totally digital resource for use with Google Slides™ includes 20 slides with three different types of 2-digit by 1-digit area model problems and features movable base-ten blocks for modeling the problems. A separate file shows the solutions to all of the problems.

INCLUDES:

☀️ Google Slides file with 3 types of problems—Build the Area Model and Solve (10 problems), Describe the Area Model and Solve (5 problems), and Complete the Area Model and Solve (5 problems).

☀️ Slides feature moveable base-10 blocks and fillable text boxes.

☀️ A separate answer key file.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Great resource for students to visualize and gain understanding about multiplication." Mary M.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Used in an emergency when I was teaching remotely while my class was in-person. Super engaging and challenging. Look forward to revisiting this set of slides several times throughout fifth grade multiplication and division instruction. Print a slide or two, add some notes and labels, and you have an anchor chart. Extremely well done." Kerri A.
